BOWERY TO WILLIAMSBURG

bowerytowilliamsburg

Description: This subway-styled (as in the underground railway, not the sandwich franchise) cafe is new to town and hides away in Oliver Lane off Flinders Street.  The breakfast menu is a good twist on the usual suspects and comes printed on arty postcards.  Worth noting, at the moment they are cash only – with no ATMs close by make sure you’re cashed up before you get there.

We ordered: Maple baked beans w poached eggs & slab bacon | Shakshouka (baked) eggs w merguez sausage, persian fetta & tomato

The Verdict: Breakfast came in generous portions and was warm and filling for a cold winter’s day.  Love the decor of the cafe but even just half full of people we were shouting to hear each other and the one long shared table didn’t make it a particularly cosy or intimate spot.  The outdoor seating however, will be perfect when the temperature is a bit warmer!

The Vitals:

  • Skinny latte – $3.80 (Padre beans) served with a Hershey’s on the side
  • Eggs on toast – $16 (Shakshouka eggs served with toasted flat bread)
  • Muesli option – $12 (Granola – we didn’t order it but it looked delicious when served to the group seated next to us)
